The Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site Presents
An Evening at The President’s Table
Thursday, September 30, 2010
Featuring Barry H. Landau, Curator of America’s Scrapbook
White House protocol expert Barry H. Landau, heralded as “Curator of America’s Scrapbook”, will regale attendees with a stream of stories about the rich, famous, and politically connected at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site’s special fundraising event Thursday, September 30, 2010. Private reception at the Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site, followed by dinner and presentation at the Conrad Indianapolis.
Landau is recognized as one of America’s foremost experts of the presidency and White House protocol. Named “Best Collector” by Reader’s Digest in 2006, Landau leads in collecting Presidential artifacts and memorabilia.
Landau’s total collection of more than one million items, including the original key to the White House, has provided him with a tremendous working knowledge that makes him increasingly valuable to the first families he continues to serve. Landau has served nine U.S. presidents and has planned historic events with every White House since Lyndon Johnson’s. For more than 40 years, he has brought his expertise to producing thousands of presidential events in the U.S. and abroad, forging alliances with both heads of state and royalty. He has been a frequent network commentator on matters relating to the presidency on ABC, CBS, BBC, CNN, Fox, MSNBC, including Good Morning America and The Martha Stewart Show.
Landau has served on numerous presidential commissions, including every Inaugural Committee since 1965. He travels throughout the U.S. lecturing on the history of White House protocol and on his own life experiences with the rich and famous. He is president of Barry Landau Productions, a multi-media company, and divides his time between New York City and Washington.

How Landau got started is just as remarkable as his collection! According to a January 14, 2005 article by the Washington Post, “Landau’s fascination with the presidency began when he was 10 and his mother took him from their home on Long Island to Manhattan to see President Dwight D. Eisenhower, he said. He recalls getting close enough to speak to the president and to tell Mamie Eisenhower how beautiful she was. He said that the first lady invited him to the White House and that he went with his mother, sharpening pencils in the Oval Office while waiting for the president to make his entrance.” The rest is history--that which he'll share at our September 30 event. Copies of Landau's signed book, titled "The President's Table: 200 Years of Dining and Diplomacy," (cover pictured below and linked to site with page access) will be available for purchase at the event.
