Tour Description

House tours begin on the hour and half-hour at the front door of the museum.  The first tour begins at 10am.  The last tour begins at 3:30pm.  All tours are guided.  There is no public waiting area located inside the house, so please try to arrive on the hour or half-hour.  Surrounding the house, though, areseveral gardens cared for by dedicated volunteers; we encourage you to enjoy them before or after your home tour. Tours are approximately one hour in length.  Visitors will see 10 rooms in the museum, including the third floor ball room (when it is not closed for a period in between rotating exhibits).  All of the floors are accessible by elevator.  Visitors not wishing to visit the second or third floors are asked to watch a video presentation on the first floor.

The 1875 Italianate Victorian home of President Benjamin Harrison, our country's 23rd U.S. President (1889-1893) and Indiana 's only President, figured prominently in Harrison 's campaign for the Presidency and provides insight into his family's life and history.  The three-level historic landmark recently underwent $400,000 in restoration work thanks to a Save America's Treasures grant.  The home is beautifully furnished with many of Harrison's paintings, furniture, and other artifacts including political memorabilia. The reconstructed carriage house (located behind the home) features a First Ladies display and Bustles to Ballots, a Women's Suffrage exhibit.  Our current special exhibition, titled William Henry Harrison: Tippecanoe and History Too, is available from February 16 through October 31, 2009.
