HAIL TO THE CHIEF: GRADES 3 THROUGH 5
Students learn the six jobs that every U.S. President must fulfill. The history of the song “Hail To the Chief” is explored. Benjamin Harrison enactor Ed Myers speaks to the participants.

“IS THE UNITED STATES A DEMOCRACY?” GRADES 3 THROUGH 8
Should we call the United States government a Democracy? Students learn how our system of government came to be, and exactly what form of government we have. Activities involve students in active citizenship.

THE EVERYDAY LIFE OF A CIVIL WAR SOLDIER: GRADES 3 THROUGH 8
Students review Harrison’s wartime letters and the diary of Confederate soldier John Weatherred. The causes of the war and the realities of a soldier’s life are analyzed. Students break into teams to answer questions.
