The scope of the museum's collection is very focused. All of the collection belonged to or relates to Benjamin Harrison's lifetime and family. The collection includes a variety of objects: the 1875 Italianate home, political memorabilia, Caroline Harrison's china paintings.

The Harrison Home is the only site dedicated to the memory of our 23rd President. Since such a high percentage of items in the collection are original they provide visitors with a unique look into the life of the Harrison family.

Through the collection the museum preserves and interprets personal property, papers, and historical documents relating to Benjamin Harrison, his service to the State of Indiana, and his service to the United States of America. In early 2006, the museum was awarded aSave America's Treasures (SAT) site-improvement grant from the National Park Service that funded needed repairs and inprovements including wallpaper, carpeting, medallion replacement, plaster work, brick walkway repair, tuck-pointing, etc.

A Women’s Suffrage collection was added in 2001. The suffrage collection spans Harrison’s lifetime and that of his children. This was an important issue for the country. Those such as Belva Lockwood, who ran for the presidency against Harrison in 1888, are explored in the exhibit Bustles to Ballots.

Every year the museum has a major exhibit on the 3rd floor ballroom and several smaller themed displays though out the year. The current exhibit is Campaigns & Cartoons: Role of Caricature in Political Persuasion and Harrison Holiday Traditions.
